Ethical and Legal Consideration on ISCI
During the ICSI process, many embryos are made. However, only the one with the best quality is used to plant inside female¡¦s body again. In fact, the remaining embryos are destroyed or stored for further uses.
Although the embryos are not considered as lives by the definition of law, they are supposed to develop to lives afterwards. Destroying future lives is undoubtedly unacceptable ethically.
On the other hand, some good quality embryos are donated to other clients. Legally the babies born are the child of those clients, but not the couple who donates the gametes. How is the fact of identification of the babies genetically? The answer is that they are child of the couple who donates the gametes. It causes a confusing identification to them. Furthermore, shall the donating couple know how their embryos were treated? Do they have the right to reject the treatments? These are the problems related.
